Signet — Esroc Studio · last updated: October 10, 2026 · Version française

Signet is a personal reading journal. This page describes exactly what data the app keeps, where it is stored and what you can do with it. The French version is the reference text.

Data collected

Two things are only sent if you trigger them yourself:

The app collects no location data and does not read your contacts, files or address book. On Android, it declares permissions limited to its own operation: internet and network state (sync), notifications (reading session in progress, daily reminder and weekly recap, all of which can be turned off), vibration (haptic feedback), receiving notifications and briefly keeping the device awake to deliver them, the camera, only if you choose to scan a book's barcode, and background audio playback (“media playback” foreground service), so that the ambient sound you start keeps playing with the screen off. Only notifications and the camera are requested explicitly; none of these permissions gives access to personal data.

Looking up a book by its barcode

When you scan a book's barcode or type its ISBN, the camera image is analysed on your device: it is neither sent nor stored. Only the resulting ISBN is sent to Open Library, Google Books and the catalogue of the Bibliothèque nationale de France to find the title, author and page count. No account or journal data comes with this request, which only happens when you trigger it.

Covers

If you look for a cover for a book, its title (and author) are sent to Google Books, Open Library, Apple Books and AniList to suggest images. Only the address of the image you choose is saved with the book. Covers are then displayed directly from these services' servers (Google, Open Library and the Internet Archive, Apple, AniList), which therefore see the image request, with your IP address, each time it is displayed. A book without a cover triggers none of these requests.

No tracking

Signet contains no advertising, no tracker and no third-party analytics tool. No data is sold, rented or shared with third parties for commercial purposes. The font and the libraries are bundled with the app itself. The only requests to services other than ours are the ISBN lookup and the covers described above.

Where your data is stored

Your data is stored first on your device, which lets the app work offline; this local copy is erased from the device when you sign out and when you delete your account. It is synchronised with a PostgreSQL database hosted by Supabase in the European Union. All traffic is encrypted (HTTPS).

Isolation between accounts is enforced by the database itself (Row Level Security): technically, one account cannot read another's data, even if the app misbehaves.

Processors

Four providers process data on our behalf, only to run the app:

Retention and deletion

Your data is kept as long as your account exists. You can delete a book or a session from the app at any time, or your whole account and its data from Settings ▸ Delete my account, in the Android app as well as on the web version (signet.esrocstudio.com): deletion is immediate and permanent. You can also ask for your account to be deleted by email at the address below, without needing the app.

Email recaps can be turned off in Settings or in one click from the link in every email.

Your rights

Under the GDPR, you have the right to access, rectify, erase and port your data. The app lets you view and edit your whole journal, and export it at any time (Settings ▸ Backup and import, JSON and CSV formats). For any other request, use the contact below.
